Malediven Addu Atoll 2026

Addu Atoll Malediven

We chose Addu Atoll mainly because of its famous tiger sharks. Unfortunately, during our two week stay we were not lucky enough to encounter one. However, we were rewarded with plenty of reef sharks, manta rays and eagle rays.

We stayed at Canareef Resort for two weeks and dived with Diverland Canareef. Most mornings we joined one or two tank dive trips, while those who wished could also take part in an additional afternoon dive.

As we visited during the shoulder season, there were only a few divers around. Even so, the dive centre still operated trips to distant dive sites, sometimes involving boat rides of more than an hour, occasionally for as few as three divers. We really appreciated this personal level of service.

The reefs are in good condition and there is plenty of marine life. Compared to Ari Atoll, however, the schools of fish are generally smaller. The most impressive dive sites are located on the outside of the atoll, where steep reef walls, usually excellent visibility and often strong currents can be expected. Unlike many other Maldivian atolls, Addu has only a few classic thilas and giris.

Although we missed our main target, the tiger sharks, Addu Atoll still impressed us with its diverse diving, healthy reefs and frequent encounters with large marine life.
